Two shot at downtown Orlando apartment, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. — New information has been released in the search for the shooter who injured two people at a downtown Orlando complex, police said.

A man and woman were shot Oct. 5 at 55 West apartments at 55 West Church Street, police said.

Originally police thought a man who was found in a crashed car was the only victim, but investigators later learned a woman left the shooting scene shortly after officers arrived, investigators said.

Christopher Simmons, 27, was shot in the torso and Jonna Cary, 21, was shot in the jaw; both have been uncooperative with police, investigators said.

Police believe there was some sort of altercation near the corner of Pine Street and Orange Avenue shortly before the shooting was reported in the elevator to the parking garage at the 55 West building.

Police said they found a large bag of marijuana in the car Simmons was driving.

Police have a vague description of the shooter.

"It was just something that was not expected, especially in a busy area like here," said 55 West resident Edwuije Saintilien.
