ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A University of Central Florida football player is recovering in the hospital after he was shot outside on an Orange County bar early Saturday morning.
Defensive back Chris Williams, 20, was shot twice in the arm in a parking lot outside King Tut's Lounge on Alafaya Trial, deputies said.
Deputies said an argument or physical confrontation led to the shooting.
Williams was taken to Florida Hospital East and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Williams is a freshman and has seen little action on the field for the Knights.
UCF head coach George O'Leary said he's monitoring the developments in the investigation. An assistant coach told WFTV O'Leary expects to receive more information later tonight.
UCF officials confirmed that they're aware of the incident and said they were gathering more information.
Neighbors of the bar said they've become frustrated with the increasing problems with partying in the parking lot.
"I kind of saw it coming because sometimes they had a lot of people over there. It's not the first time," Jorge Vasquez, a worker next to the bar, said.
Vasquez said he cleans up beer bottles after each weekend after the bar's patrons often bring the party into the parking lot.
The bar is closed now and the owners were unreachable for comment.
