ORLANDO, Fla. — The pandemic has left many without the ability to put food on the table, but a young woman is helping those in need.

UCF grad Sashauna McKain came up with the idea for an “everybody eats fridge” after seeing similar projects in other cities.

“I just want to help out as much people as I can,” McKain said. “Our motto is basically, ‘Give what you can, take what you need.’”

“Just by donating, you’re helping a fellow neighbor, someone that you’ve never known before that may be going through something or doesn’t have food to eat,” McKain said.

Last month, the community fridge was created at East End Market in Audubon Park. It is filled with fresh food from some of Central Florida’s top food entrepreneurs.

“We all go through tough times. So just being able to help another person… it is very humbling,” McKain said.

There are some items that are not allowed in the fridge, including raw meat, fish and homemade food.
