Valencia College adjunct faculty use convoy to demand ability to unionize

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Adjunct faculty at Valencia College spent Labor Day demanding that administrators allow them to officially form a union.

Teachers formed a caravan at Oviedo High School and made their way to the homes of key Valencia College administrators, one of whom lives around the block.

Teachers say this fight to unionize has lasted three years.

Adjunct professors, who make up 65% of the faculty at Valencia College, said that while their position is part time, many work fulltime hours, there is no health care and the pay is too low, calling it “poverty wage” levels.
