Girl, 15, accused of stealing $15K from her grandparents

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 15-year-old Deltona girl was arrested on Saturday after stealing $15,000 from her grandparents and then running away from home, deputies said.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office also arrested a 39-year-old woman who accepted some of the money from the 15-year-old.

According to deputies, on Friday, the girl’s grandparents found their safe had been opened and all the cash inside, totaling $15,640, was missing.

Deputies said the victims suspected their granddaughter, whom they said has a history of theft, drug use and running away from home.

The missing 15-year-old was located Saturday night at a Deltona gas station.

According to deputies, the girl admitted to taking the money, spending some of it and also giving away thousands of dollars, including $6,000 to her friend’s mom.

On Saturday, deputies also arrested 39-year-old Anna Marie Sikora of Deltona, who eventually admitted she accepted $4,000 from the girl in November, despite knowing the money was her grandparents’.

Sikora was charged with grand theft and was released on $2,500 bond early Sunday.

The 15-year-old was charged with burglary and grand theft and later released by the Department of Juvenile Justice with a future court date, deputies said.
