70-year-old Central Florida woman killed in head-on collision, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly head-on crash in Volusia County.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on State Road 44 near Taganana Drive.

Troopers said a Toyota Sienna was traveling eastbound on S.R. 44 when a Kia Optima, for an unknown reason, was traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes.

The Optima hit the Sienna head-on.

The 70-year-old driver of the Sienna was transported to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the Optima was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

This crash remains under investigation.
