DeSantis: Florida teachers, principals to receive $1K bonuses

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Florida teachers and principals will be receiving $1,000 bonuses, Gov. Ron DeSantis said.

The governor made the announcement Wednesday during a news conference at a The Garlic in New Smyrna Beach.

During the news conference, DeSantis also signed the state’s budget into law.

The budget includes bonuses for law enforcement officers and first responders.

It also includes efforts to protect the environment and mental health initiatives for children.

“I think there’s a lot of great stuff going on in the state of Florida, and I think the budget really reflects a state government that is meeting the core concerns of Floridians,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis vetoed more than $1 billion from the federal government meant for emergency preparedness.

He also vetoed funding for the LGBT+ Center in Orlando and a project that would improve drinking water in Groveland.
