DELTONA, Fla. — Volusia County deputies are on paid leave following a deadly shooting in Deltona.
Investigators said the suspect, 37-year-old Gregory Howe, was pulled over Tuesday afternoon for a traffic violation. When asked about his suspended license, he took off and refused to stop, according to officials.
Volusia deputies said they chased the driver and used several stop sticks during the slow pursuit.

The chase became a slow-speed pursuit with the man driving on his rims when he arrived at his home in Deltona, deputies said.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Howe pulled out what looked like an AK-47 type weapon and that’s when four of his deputies opened fire.
Investigators said they discovered a link between Howe and a shooting from last month.

In May, Howe was found with two loaded firearms in his car, one of which may be connected to an Orange City shooting from April 27, when a woman was shot in the chest in Orange City, Chitwood said.
“The description of the shooter and the partial tag that was provided match the suspect in this case,” he said.
No deputies were injured in the shooting.
Sheriff Chitwood said Howe was a navy veteran who was medically discharged 8 years ago.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
