Voters flock to polls in final weekend of early voting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A line spilled out the door of the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office Saturday as people took advantage of the final weekend of early voting.

The headquarters was one of two locations that had a wait exceeding 30 minutes.

Elections Supervisor Bill Cowles said some Orange County precincts have seen a 60 percent turnout during early voting.

Many told Channel 9 if they had to stand in line, they'd prefer to do so on Saturday instead of on Election Day.

Voter Cheryl Saint Paul was met with an hourlong wait at the South Creek branch of the Orange County Library System.

“Luckily, the weather is so nice,” she said. “It wasn't even hot when we were waiting, and it's very easy.”

Saint Paul brought along her 8-year-old son to both watch the process and to engage in it. Elections officials set up a special website for children to cast mock ballots.

For one woman, who didn’t provide her name, the wait was just too long.

“I have to have lunch for my daughter, and then I'll be right back,” she said. “But I'll definitely be back.”

Mohammed Oudghiri, a first-time voter, had to park at a shopping center several blocks away from a polling station, but he said the trek was well worth it. %

“I thought it was a long line,” he said. “But it's been really good. A great experience.”

Early voting continues Sunday in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Polk counties. In Orange County, votes may be cast from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
