WINTER PARK, Fla. — Winter Park Memorial Hospital announced the largest investment in its history.
The hospital laid out plans Wednesday for an $85 million patient tower.
The new project is meant to help the community keep up with growth.
Officials said the Nicholson Pavilion will initially have 80 rooms, and then 160 more will be added when it is completed.
“We have 33,000 seniors in a five-mile radius. Eight residents of Winter Park become seniors every day. One of the first services to move into this pavilion will be orthopedic,” said hospital administrator Jennifer Wandersleben.
The new space will also allow the hospital to transition to private rooms and improve care, officials said.
The hospital conducts about 10,000 surgeries a year. They have about 75,000 outpatient visits.
Construction is set to begin in the winter. The building is scheduled to open in 2018.
