Winter Park retires decades-old Christmas tree

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The city of Winter Park on Saturday retired the decades-old Christmas tree donated by former WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl.

Bob has lit the 30-foot tall tree every year for the past 29 years.

The city held a farewell sendoff for the tree in Central Park.

"I hope the spirit this tree carries with it, the spirit of giving and generosity and love, will continue for many years to come," said Opsahl.

The city will start a new tradition this year with a digital tree.

City officials said the new tree will fill the southern half of Central Park with festive holiday music and dancing lights, offering a new glow for all to enjoy during the holiday nights.
