Woman claims 1-year-old child burned at Sanford day care

SANFORD, Fla. — A woman said her daughter was badly burned on her hand at her day care.

KidzKare Preschool & Child Care Center on Sanford Avenue is now under investigation.

The facility has been cited for violations before.

The Department of Children and Families keeps those types of citations on file for two years.

It takes a number of class one--the most severe type of violation--for a facility to be stripped of its license.

Channel 9 found nine violations of varying levels in the last two years, and new potential violations are currently being investigated.

A photo shows burns on a 1-year-old girl's hand, which her mother said surfaced while she left her children at KidzKare Preschool & Child Care Center

The girl’s mother claims she brought her child to the doctor who confirmed it was a second-degree burn.

Day care workers aren't saying how it might have happened.

A woman, who only identified herself as the daycare's director, said she was unaware of the problem.

“I heard about it, but I don't know nothing about that hand,” she said.

DCF is investigating the child care facility and looking for hazards that could have caused a burn.

Meanwhile, Seminole County Child Protective Services is looking into potential abuse charges.

Another woman working at the day care said the child did not get burned while in their care.

“The baby was like that when she come here,” she said.

She referred Channel 9 reporter Janine Reyes to DCF, which confirmed there have been nine violations at the day care since January 2015.

The violations include inadequate supervision, which is a class one offense, and a class two offense of leaving a child a child in a vehicle.

KidzKare Preschool & Child Care Center received several class three violations including child abuse report missing and documentation not given the day of the incident.

The mother of the child has pulled her children from the day care.

She said she also reported the facility to Seminole County Early Learning, which provides scholarships for the facility for parents who need help paying for child care
