Orange Co. Cat Ambassador Calls For More Adoptions

Orange County Animal Services' Official Cat Adoption Ambassador, Flora.

None — With hundreds of lives saved since August 1, Orange County Animal Services is well on its way to achieve its life-saving goal. However, though dog adoptions are doing well, cat adoptions have slowed down during one of the shelter busiest cat intake periods.

"Every single cat cage is filled at our shelter right now," said Dil Luther, Division Manager of Orange County Animal Services. "We have more than 200 cats in need of help!"

Beginning August 1, the Division embarked on three-month life-saving initiative as one of the Top 50 shelters in the national American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) $100K Challenge.

"My feline friends are like, what's up Flora, you need to act now!" said Flora, Orange County Animal Services' Official Cat Adoption Ambassador. "It's time all the 'Team Cat' people out there come and show us some love. Check out some of the great adoptables I posted on Facebook."

The Division's goal is to save 2,000 pets through adoption, rescue and reuniting lost pets with their owners by Oct. 31, 2011.

The ASPCA $100K Challenge kicked off August 1 with Animal Services' "Summer Splash" adoption promotion. Wet ‘n Wild is donating a pair of tickets to its water park for one lucky adopter daily during August. Summer Splash also offers multiple prizes including:

• A Ducky Draw with discounted adoption fees from FREE to $30 • Pet vacation stays from Happy Paws Pet Resort (including pool time!) • A pet-sitting and doggie daycare package from University of Doglando (including pool time!) • A 3-month supply of VitaminWater

Challenge events, promotions, sponsors and more will be featured on the Challenge's dedicated landing page at www.ocfl.net/challenge and on its Facebook Challenge page.

Orange County Animal Services is located at 2769 Conroy Road, Orlando, FL 32839 near the Mall at Millenia and IKEA. The facility is open for adoptions Monday–Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.ocnetpets.com.
