VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A DeLand woman is accused of crashing into a parked patrol car on Labor Day during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Officers with the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety were investigating a theft just before 3 a.m. Monday at the intersection of South Atlantic Drive and Bonner Avenue.
Police say Brittney Loveless, 26, crashed into the parked patrol car, totaling it.
Two young girls were leaning against the car when it was hit. They were shaken up but not seriously hurt, according to police.
According to her arrest report, Port Orange officers who responded to conduct the crash and DUI investigations say they were able to smell alcohol on Loveless' breath and say her eyes were red and glassy.
Loveless was asked to perform four field sobriety tests and failed to complete any of them, according to the report.
The report says Loveless admitted to taking two prescription medications before having approximately four glasses of wine that evening.
Loveless was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence with damage to a person or property and misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
