Rental Car Workers Pistol-Whipped By Gunman

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Two Budget Rent-A-Car employees were pistol-whipped by a gunman who burst into the business and tried to rob it around 9:00am Wednesday, according to police. The gunman got away and the two employees were sent to the Parrish Medical Center.

The attempted robbery happened at the Budget Rent-A-Car facility on S. Washington Avenue and S. Terrier Trail (see map) , across from Titusville High School. Police said the suspect did not take a vehicle and they are waiting to speak with the employees to determine if any money was stolen.

Investigators are baffled by it, because the facilities typically use credit cards for transactions and don't have much cash. They are not usually targets of armed robberies.

According to investigators, there were two employees inside the building just before 9:00am when it was opening up. Police said a 6-foot-2 black man walked in and started making demands. Investigators said both employees inside were struck with the pistol and roughed up, although neither was shot.

Investigators said the suspect was last seen fleeing on foot, but around that same time a car was reported ditched behind a vacant house about one mile away. Police were checking into the car, but, other than the timing, didn't have anything to link the two incidents.

The victims' injuries were not considered life-threatening.
