QUEENSLAND, Australia — A nurse in Australia wants the world to know that she is not “just a nurse,” and that sentiment applies to other undervalued professions.
Nurse Caitlin Brassington wrote a Facebook post Thursday defending her chosen profession after a chance encounter with an acquaintance at a grocery store. Brassington had her nurse uniform on and the acquaintance commented that she didn’t realize she was “just a nurse.”

Brassington goes on to list her many skills and memorable moments over her 18-year nursing career. She says that she has helped bring life into this world and comforted those at the end of life. She ends the post by saying, “So, if I am just a nurse, then I am ridiculously proud to be one!”
Her post quickly went viral.
In an interview with ABC 24, Brassington said that she doesn’t think any profession should be demeaned with the word “just.” Brassington said that society should place more value on those professions which have been diminished, like nursing.
