NEW YORK — A wild scene inside a New York City bar played out when an opossum found its way inside and needed to be removed.
Video obtained by WABC shows Sarah Fulton carrying the marsupial by the scruff of its neck as she walks it out of Temkin’s Bar in Brooklyn.
Fulton, who is from Alaska but now lives in New York, said, “Hold my phone. I’m from Alaska,” before approaching the animal and removing it, WABC reported.
After taking the animal outside, the video shows her dusting off her hands and walking back to the bar as the animal scurried away, unharmed.
Fulton posted a frame of the video on Instagram showing her carrying the animal with the caption, “I did that.”
“This poor thing, with its nocturnal eyesight, and [a] rambunctious crowd, ran confused looking for a way out. Unfortunately, it’s not too easy for these scary but docile marsupials to escape this environment, so it headed for a corner,” Chris Eagen, who shot the video, told Storyful, WNYW reported.
Opossums are the only marsupial native to North America, and can be found in the eastern United States, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Officials say the animals are very adaptable, and can live wherever food, water and shelter exist.
