According to WAFB and WBRZ-TV, the boy’s mother, Tiffany Cressionnie, said her family was swimming at the sandbar near the Tickfaw River when the attack occurred.

“My son all of a sudden screamed, ‘Something bit me!’” Cressionnie told WAFB, noting that she did not see the gator until she spotted it over her husband’s shoulder.

“We live here, so we religiously look all around, but obviously there was one out there that we didn’t see,” she told the TV station.

The Livingston Parish Fire District No. 2 posted a warning on its official Facebook page, reminding residents to stop feeding alligators because the practice makes them feel more comfortable approaching boats and swimmers, WBRZ reported.

Cressionnie also told WAFB that 6-year-old Gavin never even shed a tear.

“Everybody jumped in their spots to do what they were supposed to do. My 16-year-old took pictures and dropped a pin, so we could file the reports. We had the first-aid supplies on the boat to make sure that we were able to take care of his foot,” she added.
