Philadelphia police told WPVI that crime scene investigators removed the body after receiving a tip that a woman who had been missing for eight years was buried in the basement of a home. The first officers on scene last week described a hoarding situation, and it took several days to remove the trash and debris.

Law enforcement sources told WTXF that the body was in a bag encased in concrete. While police told the station they believe they know who the victim is, they are working to confirm her identity.

“You don’t know what’s going on — all these rumors, all these stories,” Melissa Rosario, a neighbor, told WPVI. “It took them so long to clean out the house. It’s like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s a lie and maybe there’s not a body there.’ And then to hear the body was there for eight years?”

Investigators said the medical examiner will determine whether the person who was found was killed or died of natural causes, WPVI reported.
