CHICAGO — A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot at a Chicago playground on Friday, authorities said.
Lavel Winslow was found with a gunshot wound to his head at Lerner Park in the city’s North Side neighborhood of West Ridge at about 9:38 p.m. CDT, WLS-TV reported.
A witness told police that he heard a loud pop, followed by many people running from the area on foot, according to WGN-TV. The witness said he called police after seeing Winslow on the bench, the television station reported.

Winslow was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, WBBM-TV reported.
There is no one in custody and police said an investigation is ongoing, WGN reported.
