HOCKESSIN, Del. — A Delaware woman is accused of stealing her neighbor’s therapy dog and abandoning it on the side of a New Jersey road, authorities said.
Cynthia Yalisove, 63, of Hockessin, was charged Friday with one count of felony theft greater than $1,500, the New Castle County Division of Police said Tuesday in a news release. Authorities in Pennsville, New Jersey, are drafting animal cruelty charges against Yasilove, NJ.com reported.
According to authorities, a family in Hockessin reported that “Rip,” their 6-month-old Pyredoodle, was missing from their home, WDEL reported. Yalisove’s house is behind the home of Cindy Aman, who owns that dog and lives with her partner and their daughter, who relies on Rip as a therapy dog, WPVI reported.
Aman used several social media platforms to announce that Rip was missing, KYW reported. The next day, residents in Pennsville found the dog on the side of the road and it was reunited with its family later that day, according to the television station.
While the family was in Pennsville, a witness told them that Rip had been dumped from a large black Chevrolet SUV with a Delaware license plate, which then left the scene, the New Castle County Division of Police said in its news release.
That information led police to suspect Yalisove, and authorities gathered more evidence before an arrest warrant was issued, WPVI reported.
Yalisove was arrested Friday and later released on her own recognizance, the New Castle County Division of Police said in its news release.
