JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida man was fatally mauled Wednesday by a pack of wild dogs as he was walking, investigators said.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said Donald Ray Allen, 65, was walking along Kirkland Road around 8 p.m. when he was attacked by the wild dogs, WJHG reported.
“Upon completing a thorough investigation, it was determined that (Allen) had been walking in the roadway when he suffered life-threatening injuries from an animal attack,” the Sheriff’s Office said, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. “The injuries are believed to have been caused by a pack of stray dogs roaming in the area.”
Animal control officers have placed traps for the dogs.
From 2005 to 2019, there have been 521 fatal dog attacks, according to DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victim advocate group.
