Harvey Weinstein found guilty of rape in Los Angeles sexual assault case

LOS ANGELES — Former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, 70, has been found guilty of rape in a Los Angeles sexual assault case.

Weinstein was found guilty of three charges involving Jane Doe 1 that includes forced oral copulation, sexual penetration by a foreign object and forcible rape, according to The New York Times. The jury could not decide on three other charges against him, and he was found not guilty on one count.

The jury was hung on multiple counts, including charges involving California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, according to The Associated Press.

According to the AP, the jury said they were unable to reach verdicts for Newsom’s allegations and allegations of another woman. On those counts, a mistrial was declared.

Weinstein was also acquitted of a sexual battery allegation from another woman, according to the AP.

Jurors reached the verdict Monday. According to the AP, the jurors got the case on Dec. 2 and deliberated for more than two weeks after a monthlong trial. Jurors had to make choices on two rape counts and five additional sexual assault counts against Weinstein.

According to the AP, the allegations involved four women from 2005 to 2013.

Weinstein is two years into a 23-year sentenced for a rape and sexual assault conviction in New York, according to the AP.

Weinstein pleaded not guilty and reportedly denied in any non-consensual sex, according to the AP.
