According to People magazine and E! News, the “Kardashians” star, 38, took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday to address numerous reports that she has been wearing a bandage on her cheek.

“After noticing a small bump on my face and assuming it was something as minor as a zit, I decided to get it biopsied seven months after realizing it was not budging,” she wrote, according to the entertainment outlets.

Kardashian said that after she received a second biopsy on the “rare” bump, she was told “a few days later” that she needed “an immediate operation” to remove the tumor, the outlets reported. She then contacted Dr. Garth Fischer, who performed the surgery, she said.

Kardashian added that she had a tumor removed from her back nearly two decades ago and is predisposed to melanoma.

“I am someone who wears sunscreen every single day, religiously, so no one is exempt from these things,” she wrote. “Please take this seriously and do regular self-exams as well as your annual checkups.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, melanoma is “the third-most common type of skin cancer” – behind basal and squamous cell carcinomas – but is also the deadliest “because of its tendency to spread to other parts of the body.”

For now, fans will continue to see bandages on Kardashian’s face until she is allowed to remove them, she said, adding that she will likely have a scar and indentation in her cheek.

“Until then, I hope you enjoy how fabulous I’m making these face bandages look,” she wrote.
