BELTON, Texas — A Louisiana father’s parental instinct kicked in when his son was knocked out after falling off a bull.
Cody Hooks, 18, was bull riding last month at the Bell County Rodeo in Belton, Texas, when he was bucked off moments after leaving the chute, according to KHOU-TV. In an Instagram video posted after the incident, Hooks can be seen motionless as the bull turns around and begins to charge.
Suddenly Hooks’ father, Landis Hooks, jumps on top of Cody, covering him with his entire body. Moments later the bull hit Landis, leaving Cody unharmed, according to KCEN-TV.
Cody posted the short video to Instagram thanking his father.
“Not one to post falling off, but big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx could’ve been a hella lot worse. #blessed”

The video has had over 200,000 views since it was posted on Feb. 13.
