The Everett Police Department told KIRO that officers were called to a disturbance that began when a man evicted his 77-year-old father.

The homeowner told officers that when he arrived at the property, he found his two father’s cats had been shot to death, KIRO reported. He also found an empty box of ammunition. The homeowner told officers that his father would likely still be armed, according to the television station.

Officers found the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Police told KIRO that the suspect complied with officers, who found a firearm on the vehicle’s passenger seat.

The suspect, who was not identified, allegedly admitted to killing the cats and told officers that he shot them because he didn’t want to find a new home for them, KIRO reported.

The suspect was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
