Belinda Temple, 30, was shot to death in her house on Jan. 11, 1999, according to The Associated Press. At first, investigators believed that it was a burglary, but prosecutors claimed David Temple had staged the burglary and shot his wife, who was eight months pregnant, since he was having an affair.

David Temple married the woman he allegedly had an affair with but they have since been divorced after 18 years of marriage, according to the Houston Chronicle.

David Temple’s attorneys argued during the trial that a teenager who lived in the neighborhood was the killer, according to the AP.

David Temple was convicted of murder in 2007 and was sentenced to life in prison but his conviction was overturned in 2016 due to prosecutors withholding some evidence, according to the AP. He was convicted a second time in 2019, but the jury in the trial was unable to decide on a sentence, which led to a mistrial.

The resentencing trial over this past month was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the AP reported.

A jury took about two hours to sentence David Temple to life in prison for a second time, KHOU reported.
