As part of the U.S. Postal Service's dog bite awareness campaign, letter carriers are applying paw print stickers to some mailboxes across the country.
The stickers will be placed on the mailboxes where there is a known dog in the immediate area and serve as a reminder to letter carriers to proceed with caution, according to the Postal Service.
Delivery areas participating in this program include Memphis, Tennessee; Louisville, Kentucky; and Philadelphia.
The program was started in 2019 by a group of letter carriers from Buffalo, New York, WKBW reported.
More than 5,800 letter carriers were attacked by dogs in 2019, according to the Postal Service. That is fewer than in 2018 (5,600) and 2017 (5,400), officials said.
