SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A man in Sioux Falls, South Dakota was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly led troopers on a pursuit, crashed his car, broke into a house and kidnapped a man.
According to the Argus Leader, Sam Clemens, a police spokesperson said that Maureo Lemar Murdock, 28, was arrested around 5 p.m. Tuesday by the Sioux Falls Police Department near the 600 block of S. Duluth Avenue.
According to the Argus Leader, Murdock was allegedly involved in a pursuit with the South Dakota Highway Patrol that had started around 4:30 p.m. near Sixth Street and Grange Avenue. Clemens said that Murdock was reportedly a “parole absconder”. When he was approached by law enforcement, he allegedly rammed one of the patrol cars and then took off.
According to KSFY, there was some distance between Murdock’s vehicle and the patrol car so by the time they found Murdock’s car, he had crashed it and taken off. Officers set up a perimeter in the area. They then learned that Murdock had allegedly forced his way into a locked house nearby with a 66-year-old man inside.
KSFY reported that Murdock allegedly held the man inside a bedroom and threatened to kill him. However, Murdock did not have any weapons on him.
According to KSFY, after a standoff, officers were able to get inside the house and arrest Murdock. The victim was not injured.
Murdock has been charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, aggravated assault-strangulation, possession of a controlled substance- meth, and aggravated eluding, according to the Argus Leader.
