Tom Cruise is reportedly working on a movie with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX that will take place on the International Space Station.
Deadline first reported the news Monday. Later, NASA Administrator, Jim Bridenstine, confirmed the report in a tweet. A few hours later, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk seemingly confirmed the project.
Tom Cruise is known for performing many of his own stunts including parachuting from airplanes, hanging hundreds of feet in the air from the windows of the Burj Khalifa, and strapping himself to the outside of a plane during takeoff.
“NASA is opening the International Space Station for commercial business so U.S. industry innovation and ingenuity can accelerate a thriving commercial economy in low-Earth orbit,” NASA said in July.
Musk’s SpaceX Crew Dragon will launch May 27, resuming astronaut launches from the U.S. after nine years of complete Russian dependence. The SpaceX Dragon’s capsule will dock with the International Space Station.
Musk has entertained the idea of sending private citizens to space for many years.
