Ocala Fire Rescue in a Facebook post said that crews were dispatched at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a freight vehicle fire near exit 354 on Interstate 75.

Once on scene, crews located a pickup truck that was filled with thousands of pounds of onions. The trailer was fully engulfed in flames, according to OFR. The driver was able to get out of the truck safely.

According to WFLA, the driver told fire crews that he noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the trailer after blowing out a tire. Crews were able to put the fire out in about three minutes.

About six cargo bins with a total of about 6,000 onions — 1,000 per cargo bin — were affected by the fire, according to OFR.

OFR said that the Department of Transportation’s Road Rangers and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the fire.
