The bizarre encounter began Monday morning when Roy Smith, clad only in black underwear, flagged down a passerby from the porch of a Blair County home, WTAJ reported.

According to the TV station, the passerby told police that he tried unsuccessfully to reason with Smith, 33, who was irate and incoherent. When the homeowner came to the door to investigate the commotion, Smith broke a window with a chair from the porch, climbed into the home and retreated to the dwelling’s basement, the witness stated.

Charging documents indicated that Smith, who had barricaded himself in the home, was lying face-down on the cement floor and bleeding from multiple areas when responding officers kicked in the basement door.

According to WTAJ, Smith told Greenfield Township Chief of Police Ronald Sharkey Sr. that if he moved he would die because he was a bomb. Smith was escorted from the residence by officers about half an hour later, wet and bleeding.

Smith had been arrested about 10 days earlier for barricading himself in the basement of a storage facility, the TV station reported.
