SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky woman was rescued Tuesday morning after spending a harrowing night trapped inside her crashed sport utility vehicle.
Nora Thompson, 57, veered off of the road on an unfamiliar route, crashing her 2002 Chevy Trailblazer into a ditch just off Interstate 65, WDRB reported.
Thompson’s daughter, Kymberly Lammers attempted to rally help for her missing mother overnight on social media, explaining that Thompson is disabled and became disoriented after a vehicle crash forced her to detour, the TV station reported.
Shepherdsville Chief of Police Chief Rick McCubbin confirmed to WLKY that the department received a call at around 8 p.m. Monday from a disoriented Thompson, whom officers determined Tuesday crashed at around 3:45 p.m. the day before, taking out a lamppost.
“At one point (Thompson) accidentally Facetimed me. I could see on the Facetime that she had blood on her face. The air bag had been deployed. There were branches on the windshield, and the car is facing up,” Lammers told WDRB, noting that her mother stated she could not exit the vehicle and most likely had a broken arm.
Officers located Thompson’s overturned vehicle with the help of a helicopter at around 11 a.m. Tuesday and found her inside the crashed vehicle, which went into a cluster of trees down an embankment, obscuring views of the Trailblazer from the road, WLKY reported.
McCubbin confirmed to the TV station that while some of Thompson’s injuries are serious, none appear to be life-threatening, but crews were forced to extract her from the SUV.
