Vacant Home Burns Down In Apopka

APOPKA, Fla. — An Orange County family will have to start from scratch to rebuild their home after it was destroyed by a fire.

Firefighting crews worked to put out the flames at the home on Thompson Road in Apopka late Thursday night.

Fortunately, nobody was inside the home when it caught fire, as the home was being remodeled and the family was living somewhere else.

A neighbor who lives across the street told Eyewitness News that at one point the flames were shooting at least 30-feet in the air.

"It was real intense, a lot of cracking, popping. We saw embers pretty much coming down from the sky. Very loud, very intense, you could even feel the heat across the street," said Justin Sciacca, neighbor.

The witness also said one of his roommates thinks he saw someone leaving the vacant home earlier in the night.

So far investigators have not determined how the fire started or if foul play was involved.
