Brightline to start final rounds of high-speed testing in Brevard County ahead of launch

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brightline is ticking off its last tests before launching service to Central Florida.

The high-speed rail company will launch its next round of high-speed testing in Brevard County as early as Friday. The 110 mph testing is expected to last a week.

The high-speed trains will be running along a 41-mile section of track in Brevard County, including railroad crossings through Cocoa, Rockledge, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Malabar, Grant-Valkaria and Micco.

Officials said the testing will happen daily between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

During the testing, Brightline officials said you can expect additional wait times at railroad crossings in the testing corridor. Flaggers will be present at railroad crossings where active testing is taking place and where trains will travel between 79 and 110 mph.

Brightline said local law enforcement agencies will also be present throughout the corridor to enforce and encourage rail-crossing safety.

Brightline is scheduled to start offering service from South Florida to Orlando starting in September.
