Barefoot Bay residents prep for Matthew, reflect on past storms

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Preparations are underway in Barefoot Bay and surrounding neighborhoods as Hurricane Matthew inches closer to Florida.

There were long lines at gas stations, and inside mobile home parks, boards were going up.

The area of Brevard County sits on the Intercoastal Waterway, and if Hurricane Matthew hits, it would be just another of the many times Barefoot Bay has seen dozens of homes wrecked by strong winds.

Two massive hurricanes ripped through southern Brevard County in 2004.

Supplies were already in high demand on Tuesday. A nearby Winn-Dixie ran out of batteries and flashlights, and won’t be stocked with water again until Wednesday morning.
