PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities brought a handcuffed Misty Croslin to an area of Putnam County where they are searching for clues in the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. Croslin is the missing girl's former stepmother and is believed to be the last person to see Haleigh.
Croslin's appearance comes as dive teams spent all day in the St. Johns River searching for evidence. Neighbors say they may even be searching for her body in the river just a couple miles from the home she disappeared from in Satsuma.
Croslin is back in the St. Johns County jail Thursday morning where she is being held on drug charges.
It's a huge undertaking with some 40 divers from five law enforcement agencies scouring the bottom of the river at the end of a road in Putnam County. They're acting on a tip and hope to find something that will let them figure out what happened to Haleigh Cummings.
Divers spent a second day in the murky, poisonous snake-filled Saint John's River, looking for any clue in the disappearance of five-year-old Haleigh Cummings.
AT THE SCENE: Divers Search For Haleigh VIDEO REPORT: Misty's Cousin Interviewed
The renewed search is a result of a tip from a suspect who indicated there was physical evidence in the water.
"They just said they were still treating it as a crime scene," neighbor Kathy Goodson said.
Satsuma resident Kathy Goodson has watched that scene unfold for two days. The normally quiet and peaceful waterway was patrolled by sheriff's office boats who forced other boats away from the divers.
Teams dealt with chilly water and had to go down as far as 20 feet to get to the bottom.
"They were very, very tight-lipped. They're not saying much of anything," Goodson said.
That lack of information deepens the mystery. Haleigh vanished from her father's mobile home back in February 2009. The last known person to see her was Misty Croslin, who at the time was Ronald Cummings' girlfriend and soon to be wife.
Croslin said she tucked Haleigh into bed then went to bed herself. But when she woke up, the little girl was gone.
WFTV talked to Haleigh's grandmother, Annette Sykes, Wednesday.
"I'm hoping for, I hope someone brings Haleigh home," Sykes said.
Joe Overstreet 041410 Joe Overstreet In the meantime Misty's cousin, Joseph Overstreet, was questioned by agents at FBI headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee Tuesday night..
Authorities said Overstreet was in Satsuma the night Haleigh disappeared and might know something.
"I think when they did not find her right away we all thought some sort of harm had come to her," Goodson said.
A sheriff's office spokesman also indicated deputies searched some woods by the river, but it is not known if anything came from that search.
Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin will be in court on drug charges in the next few weeks. Cummings is scheduled to go before a judge on May 13 and his ex-wife Misty, has a hearing set for June 8.
Both have pleaded "not guilty," after being arrested in January for allegedly trafficking prescription drugs.
