ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando man regrets ever signing up for one of those bundle deals for cable, phone and Internet. He said AT&T refused to honor the deal, then kept billing him for service he no longer had.
It’s one of a couple dozen complaints Action 9's Todd Ulrich got about the company's promotions and fees.
The AT&T Uverse promotion promised to save Morris Broome on cable and phone. A sales person knocked on his door and later wrote a contract for $145 a month.
Broome then got a bill for $168 a month. He said corporate could not honor that deal but that he could cancel.
Broome said he was told, “All you do is disconnect it, take it to UPS and you're done. That's it.”
Instead, Broome said AT&T keeps billing him for a service he doesn't even have.
“I just refuse to pay it. It's outrageous," he said.
Deborah George said AT&T honored its promotion at first. She got the promised monthly rate, and her deal came with a free LG Pad or Samsung Galaxy.
“Can you show me your pad or tablet?” asked Ulrich.
“No, they never offered it to me,” she said.
It's not that she didn't complain.
“I was on the phone for an hour and 43 minutes and spoke to various people,” she said.
First George was told the reward expired and that it would only be a $50 gift card.
“And I went straight to you,” she said to Ulrich.
Since 2014, Action 9 tried to help 25 AT&T customers who turned to us, claiming the company did not honor promotions or that they faced unauthorized charges, many involved AT&T Uverse.
Nationwide, it has more than 19,000 complaints at the Better Business Bureau but is rated A-plus because it responds.
Many consumers who called Action 9 got results.
George collected a $150 credit, and the company said Morris had canceled and now didn't owe anything.
But she still thinks the company owes her another $200.
AT&T said the Broome complaint had been under review to see how much the refund would be.
