Armed bank robber killed by Titusville police officer, officials say

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — An armed bank robber was shot by an officer during a heist at a Bank of America Wednesday, the Titusville Police Department said.

Police responded to the robbery call at about 11 a.m. and found the suspect outside the Bank of America on Barna Avenue near Harrison Street, officials said.

Jesse Daniel Joynt, 35, is accused of running from police as they approached, police said.

“They only fire their weapons when there's a deadly threat. The minute that deadly threat is over, they turn into life savers and now they perform their life saving actions,” said Todd Hutchison, deputy chief with the Titusville Police Department.

Michael Cantin said he saw the shooting. He said he heard officers repeatedly shouting at the man to stop, then gunshots.

“They pretty much came right up to him,” Cantin said.

Police are not saying specifically what made them shoot.

No officers were injured in the incident, investigators said.

Per department policy, the officer involved was placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigation, officials said.
