Body found in car at Wawa in Orange City

ORANGE CITY, Fla. — A body was found Sunday afternoon at a Wawa in Orange City, the Orange City Police Department said.

Someone called 911 at about 11 a.m. after noticing a suspicious car parked at the Wawa on Enterprise Road at Harley Strickland Boulevard, said Orange City Deputy Chief Wayne Miller.

The car’s driver was found dead, and a passenger was found alive, but he wasn’t alert when officers arrived, Miller said.

Neither person was publicly identified.

“The passenger is alert and speaking with us. And so we're investigating when they got here, why they got here and what may have transpired,” Miller said. “There will be an autopsy involved, and we'll include that in our investigation.”

Officers hope footage retrieved from the gas station’s surveillance cameras will help answer some of their questions.

An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine how the car’s driver died.
