Boy critically injured in race track crash

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy was critically injured in a race track crash at the Auburndale Speedway in Polk County Saturday evening, according to officials.

Deputies say 12-year-old Tyler Morr was racing a modified race car during a "Kids Club" race at the speedway in Winter Haven. Morr lost control of his race car while he was trying to pass another car during a turn. Officials say Morr crashed straight into a concrete barrier.

Morr was flown to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he is in listed in critical condition.

The "Kids Club" race is an event for kids between the ages of 10 and 16. Deputies say this race included five cars that race for eight laps.

All of the kids that participate wear helmets, harnesses, and drive race cars that have been reinforced inside, officials say. Deputies believe the cars were racing at around 45 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

Deputies continue to investigate the crash.
