Excessive speed led to deadly crash in Cocoa Beach, police say

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — Cocoa Beach police say excessive speed led to a deadly crash that killed two people in November.

Apollo Corapi, 80, and his girlfriend, Marta Ney, 78, were killed when their pickup truck flipped after a violent collision on North Atlantic Avenue.

Timothy Bahus, 32, was taken into custody Thursday.

In a Brevard County courtroom, a judge found probable cause for his arrest on two counts of vehicular homicide.

The charges stem from the November crash.

Police believe that Bahus was traveling at an excessive speed at the time of the crash.

“I heard how fast he was going and there were other witnesses who said he’d pass them at over 80 miles per hour,” said neighbor Kit Carson.

Police said it was a complicated case. There was extensive damage to the vehicles and police had to wait for autopsy and toxicology reports.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.

Bahus is being held on $70,000 bail.
