Composite sketch released of man who tried to rape woman near UCF

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office released a composite sketch of a man they believe tried to rape a woman near the University of Central Florida campus early Wednesday morning.

The 20-year-old woman was attacked while walking to a friend's house in the area of Socrates Drive, authorities said.

The woman said she had been approached by an unknown white man, who grabbed her and forced her to the ground. Deputies said the man then partially disrobed the woman and exposed himself while holding her down.

Authorities said the victim screamed for help and was able to fight him off, before the man fled on foot in an unknown direction.

"It's like 1:20 in the morning and I was asleep, but I was woken up by a loud voice, and she was yelling, 'Help!' several times very loud," said a witness who did not want to be identified.

Deputies said they received a 911 call where dispatchers could hear a woman screaming outside near the Collegiate Village Inn apartments. When deputies arrived, they found the woman walking  and crying.

When detectives canvassed the neighborhood, they found a set of keys that were taken into evidence.

In addition, UCF did not issue an emergency notification, that would have warned the thousands of subscribers about the attack.

"I'll always be alert. Just a block away there's been a lot of crimes," said resident Dante Sante.

The investigation is ongoing.
