ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The so-called “Hello Kitty” rapist was sentenced to life in prison Friday afternoon at the Orange County courthouse.
A judge sentenced Edgar Collazo, 25, to life in prison for sexual battery and kidnapping charges he was convicted of in July.
Police nicknamed Collazo the Hello Kitty rapist because the character is tattooed on his arm.
One of Collazo’s alleged victims appeared in court for his sentencing to tell him how he’s affected her life.
Collazo is dangerous and shouldn’t be given the chance to walk free, she said.
The woman told Collazo she would prefer death over the pain she feels as she showed the judge the depression medication she said she must take daily.
A prosecutor read a letter written by another woman, who didn’t want to face her attacker in court.
"My body does not let me fall asleep before 4 a.m.,” she wrote. “I sleep with a weapon and pepper spray beside my bed every night."
The case went unsolved for years until investigators linked Collazo to that 2010 case after an attempted rape in an IHOP parking lot in 2014. It was DNA evidence that connected Collazo to the previous case and another, according to authorities.
"One person, and one person alone, is responsible for the timid, anxious, sleep deprived woman that I have become,” the woman wrote. “That person is Edgar Collazo."
Collazo was also sentenced to 37.9 years for burglary and robbery charges.
