The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Montclair Road.

Deputies said the man who lives in the home, identified as Jammy Casteel, 41, called 911 saying he’d be shot. Investigators said Casteel was found injured on the front porch of the home. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said another person was found dead inside the home and there were signs of forced entry.

Records show Casteel has a criminal history that includes drugs, but deputies don’t know what prompted the shooting.

Neighbors told Channel 9 they believe the shooting started as a home invasion.

“I don’t really know what happened over there, but he shouldn’t have went out like that,” said a man named Antonio, who said he was friends with Casteel.

Deputies said the shooting was not a random act of violence. Investigators said they believe the man found dead inside the home was brought to the home in a vehicle that fled the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies said they do not have a description of that vehicle yet.
