Deputies seek driver who hit and killed Bartow man

BARTOW, Fla. — A Bartow man was hit and killed by a car that fled the scene early Sunday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

Barry Powell Jr., 30, was walking west along the shoulder of Highway 60 just east of the Cedar Trail Landfill around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by the vehicle, deputies said.

Powell died at the scene.

Detectives said they are looking for a black vehicle, of unknown make and model, that would have damage to the front passenger side, front headlamp and front corner panel.
