Documents: 2 FHP troopers off job after falsifying time sheets

CENTRAL FLORIDA — They were supposed to be patrolling the Turnpike through central Florida, but Channel 9 learned two state troopers were getting paid while they were sitting at home.

Both of those troopers are off the job.

Investigators said Sgt. Jorge Delahoz and Cpl. Jackie Cox went to great lengths to falsify their time sheets.

Documents from the Office of Inspector General said that Delahoz admitted that he often stayed at his home for several hours while he was supposed to be on the clock.

Documents said he justified his actions by saying he was working from home.

State officials monitored his vehicle’s activity for 19 days.

During that time, he claimed he worked 104 hours but the investigation revealed 40 of those were spent at his house.

It also said he gave his password to another trooper who went into an FHP system and accessed private information.

Cox was also reprimanded in the investigation.

Delahoz allegedly ratted on Cox for falsifying reports of daily activity and overtime.

The inspector general wasn’t able to find overtime reports from Cox spanning five months and Cox allegedly said he was working overtime, even though he was home.

Documents stated that “Cox routinely spends hours at his residence while compensated by the department.”

He was fired from FHP.

Delahoz retired in September after 27 years of service with the patrol.

FHP said the former troopers will not face criminal charges.
