ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 has obtained new discovery documents in the case of an Orange County man who is accused of killing his fiancee and blaming the death on home invaders.
YolizMarie DeJesus Borrero, 22, was killed in April and her fiancee, John DeJesus, initially told investigators she was killed by home invaders. DeJesus was later arrested and charge in connection with Borrero's death.
Prosecutors told WFTV they have been building a case against DeJesus and the evidence, mostly circumstantial, has continued to add up. The evidence includes a neighbor's surveillance footage that detectives said shows DeJesus throwing the murder weapon into a pond, as well as scratches on his body and blood spatter on his face.
DeJesus denied being involved in his fiancee's death during questioning.
"I didn't lie about nothing," said DeJesus.
"People lie. Evidence doesn't lie and the evidence is not showing what you're saying, what you're telling us," said a detective.
New evidence shows a lab analyst only found the victim's DNA on the weapon, which was later recovered by a dive team. The test results indicated Borrero's DNA was a major part of the mixture found on the gun. But because a DNA sample wasn't taken from DeJesus, the analyst couldn't determine if he was part of the mix.
According to authorities, DeJesus stole the gun from a man at a club before fatally shooting Borrero. The 28-year-old has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and is scheduled to go to trial at the end of September.
