BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Efforts to clean up a major waterway in Central Florida are seeing some major milestones.

Voters approved a half-cent sales tax to remove pollution from the Indian River Lagoon.
The “Save our Indian River Lagoon” project scattered around 100,000 clams from the Max Brewer Bridge on Saturday.

The clams will help filter water over the course of a decade.
Save our Indian River Lagoon plans to take on over 400 projects across Brevard County.

“I lived here for most of my life, so we’ve noticed quite a difference and in fact, talked with my parents about the oysters and the clams and everything. It made a very big impact on the lagoon as a whole,” a local resident said.
