Testimony begins for first trial in Osceola County mistaken identity, murder-for-hire plot

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Testimony began Monday in the trial for one of three suspects in a murder-for-hire plot that led to the death of a woman who was mistaken for the intended victim.

Investigators say 39-year-old Ishnar Lopez-Ramos hired two people to kill a romantic rival back in 2018.

However, investigators say 26-year-old Alexis Ramos-Rivera and 26-year-old Glorianmarie Quinones-Montes abducted and killed then 42-year-old Janice Marie Zengotita-Torres, who worked at the same retail store as the intended target.

Prosecutors laid out their opening statements Monday in their case against Ramos-Rivera. He’s charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery.

A trial date is still pending for Quinones-Montes.

The accused mastermind, Lopez-Ramos, is scheduled for a competency hearing next month.
